[By Jeong-yoon Lee, Edaily] The concept of security is undergoing a rapid and fundamental transformation. Departing from traditional military-centric frameworks, a new paradigm is emerging - one where technology, industrial capacity, and financial prowess are integrated to define factor of national competitiveness. As the strategic rivalry between the U.S. and China intensifies, supply chains, cutting-edge technology, and even capital flows are increasingly being absorbed into the realm of national security, blurring the boundaries between economics and security at unprecedented speed. Against this backdrop of historic transition, leading domestic and international experts will gather to explore strategic responses for Korea.

Edaily will host the 17th Edaily Strategic Forum from June 16 to 17 at the Dynasty Hall of the Shilla Hotel in Seoul. Under the theme “The Age of Power, the Realignment of Civilization: Who Designs the New World?”, the forum will focus on the new security strategies and the convergence of industry and finance required for this era of self-reliance.

In recent years, the international order has evolved beyond simple military standoffs to a fierce competition over core industries such as semiconductors, batteries, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Countries are increasingly adopting a “Self-Reliance” strategies by building localized supply chains, protecting and fostering strategic industries, and leveraging financial and investment policies to enhance national strength. In this process, security, economy, and finance are no longer separate domains but are increasingly being reorganized into a single, unified strategic system.

At this year‘s forum, Rexon Ryu, President of The Asia Group (TAG), will present a keynote address on the transformation of global security and defense strategies in the era of self-reliance. A former Director for Nonproliferation at the White House National Security Council (NSC), he is widely recognized for his expertise in connecting national security with industrial and technology policy, offering strategic roadmap for navigating the shifting global order.

The forum will also feature broad discussions extending beyond security to include finance, industry, and fiscal policy. Thorsten Beck, Professor at the European University Institute, and Kwanho Shin, President of the Korea Money and Finance Association(KMFA), will analyze shifts in global capital flows and the reorganization of the financial order. Noreena Hertz, Honorary Professor at University College London (UCL), will examine the structural transformations confronting nations and societies arising from the trend toward anti-globalization and intensifying value conflicts. In addition, James Kim, Chairman & CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), and Kisoon Park, former head of the Samsung Economic Research Institute China Office, will share perspectives on Korea’s market strategy and supply chain restructuring from the viewpoints of U.S. and Chinese enterprises. Other distinguished participants include Alan Auerbach, Professor at the UC Berkeley, and Andrew Levin, Professor at Dartmouth College, who will discuss sustainable fiscal and financial policy strategies for an age of high uncertainty.

Celebrating its 17th anniversary, the Edaily Strategic Forum has established itself as a leading platform for exploring Korea‘s strategic responses to changes in the global order. This year’s event will provide essential insights into how national strategies are evolving in an environment where security, industry, and finance are becoming deeply interconnected, offering a clear strategic direction for Korea‘s future path.
